Winners’ Showcase at the Ives Auditorium
January 23, 2017We hope you will join us at the Ives Auditorium for a triumphant tribute to the 19th Annual Masters Concerto and Aria Competition winners. Accompanied by the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra, the six accomplished musicians will perform their winning selections on February 12 at 3:00 p.m. It’s all part of the Winners’ Showcase.
How It All Began
Julie Pronovici, a cellist with the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra and a mezzo-soprano, created the Masters Concerto and Aria Competition 19 years ago to offer vocalists a challenging annual event. As a young singer, Julie challenged herself to audition for the Metropolitan Opera each year; but, when she aged out of the Opera’s audition guidelines (eligibility is capped at age 30), Julie decided to start a competition of her own.
Enter the Masters Competition, which selects winners from two categories of musicians: adult amateur musicians (musicians who are not paid professional soloists and do not have an advanced degree in music performance) and emerging professionals (musicians who have, or are in the process, of earning an advanced degree in music performance, and have some paid experience either performing or teaching performance). Competitors must be 25 or older.
For this year’s Winners’ Showcase, there are four artists who fit into the emerging professional category, and two who are very talented amateur musicians. Together, they will perform a variety of exquisite pieces through a mixture of singing and instrumental solos. Reserve your seats early for this exciting event.
